As a rule of thumb: at 2–3 years most children start on a balance bike — that trains balance and coordination without the risk of falling over pedals. From 3 years three-wheel scooters and first kids scooters join in; the wide standing area gives confidence. Between 3 and 6 years the 51 and 61 cm children's skateboards are perfect as a start on a rolling board. From 6 years the 71 cm skateboard and a first pair of roller skates are suitable — the body is then coordinated enough for balancing on wheels in a single line.
Frequently asked questions about kids' sports & outdoor toys
From what age is a kids scooter suitable?
Our three-wheel scooters (such as the Kids Whiz, KidsPro 4 and Whizzie) are suitable from 3 years. They have three wheels for extra stability and height-adjustable bars that grow along with your child.
Balance bike or tricycle — which is better for toddlers?
A balance bike is more valuable educationally than a tricycle: children learn balance and coordination directly from it — skills that come in useful later on every bike, scooter and skateboard. A tricycle does not train the sense of balance, because it stands stable sideways.
Which skateboard is the right one for my child?
For children aged 3–6 we recommend the 61 cm boards — wide, stable and light. From approx. 6 years the 71 cm board is the proper children's skateboard, with a kick tail and ABEC-7 bearings.
