Buy a surfskate — the surf feeling on asphalt
A surfskate rides differently from any other board. The moving front truck lets the board swing out like a surfboard on a wave: you do not have to push off, you set the board in motion by pumping with your hips and shoulders. Anyone who surfs or snowboards recognises the movement immediately — and anyone who does not learns to steer it surprisingly quickly.
Why a surfskate?
- Pumping instead of pushing. You keep your speed by carving, not by pushing off.
- Off-season training. The same movement as surfing and snowboarding, all year round and without water.
- Tight turns. Turning circles you simply cannot achieve on an ordinary skateboard.
All surfskates are supplied fully assembled. If what you want is a board that rolls calmly in a straight line, have a look at the longboards or the midi cruisers.
Frequently asked questions about surfskates
Is a surfskate suitable for beginners?
The board steers more freely than an ordinary skateboard, so it feels restless at first. If you have stood on a board before, you will have it under control quickly. If you are completely new to it, start on a flat, empty stretch of asphalt.
What exactly is pumping?
Carving alternately to the left and right while steering with your upper body. That builds speed without taking your foot off the board — exactly the way you keep your speed on a wave.
Can I get across town on it?
For short stretches, absolutely. For longer distances in a straight line a longboard rides more calmly, because a surfskate constantly wants to swing out.
